Abbotsford, near Melrose, was the home of Sir Walter Scott, where he hosted fellow writers such as William Wordsworth. Nowadays the Hope Scott Wing, named after his granddaughter, is open to guests. Groups of up to 16 can stay on a self-catering basis and bespoke itineraries can be arranged, including clay-pigeon shooting, gin-tasting and exclusive access to the gardens
