How to share your news with us  - and how we select our news stories

What we do and how we work with you

Edinburgh Business and Lifestyle brings you news about Edinburgh’s successful and interesting businesses, from the big corporates, through to smes, micro businesses and freelancers, across all sectors. We only publish positive news.

News

We also share news of what's on, where to go and what to do, and about the top restaurants and bars in the city and beyond. We recently expanded too, due to popular demand, to include a section on business news from other Scottish cities and towns.

Some good news topics for us include financial growth; new hires; business expansion; charity work; promotions; new-product launches; new-business launches; award nominations and wins; new research statistics; and events – but that’s not all, so please do keep us posted.

 â€‹

Space for news is limited, so we don’t publish every story we receive and there is no guarantee of publication for any story we receive. There's also a limit on how much news we share about each individual business, per year, to provide as much variety as possible.

There are occasional exceptions, for instance, for stories which we believe may be of particular interest to our readers. These exceptions are at the editor’s discretion and are subject to change.

Publication of news stories is free, but this is not a free news website or a free marketing/promotional platform.

Most of our other content is sponsored. All sponsored content is marked as such.

Our news stories are short: sponsored content is longer.

Some businesses featured in news coverage are paid contributors or directory members, but editorial decisions are  independent.

How to share your news â€‹

If you’d like us to share your news, please send us a press release, along with a headshot or other photography and the name of the photographer or owner of the photography, so that we can credit them.

The photo needs to be of decent quality, or the story may not be published.  Please also let us know who's in it, so that we can caption it. No AI-generated images or logos, please - and we always prefer a headshot to a product pic.

We only accept press releases about news. We don't accept adverts, profile pieces or other marketing content as news. We also don't write your news on your behalf, from links to social-media posts or websites and we don't give 'shout-outs'.

We can't help with requests to send info to our contacts or with requests to share social-media content to our readers. We can't help with requests to reshare news stories and features we've already posted on social media or help with SEO requests. We can't act as an introducer between businesses. Also, we don't pay for stories.

If you haven’t written a press release before, there are lots of templates on the internet and you might also find ChatGPT or other AI helpful. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Please note that if your release includes statistics, we are likely to request a link to the source or other further information.

All press releases that we publish are edited, so we usually don't include all the information submitted. To give an example, we are unlikely to include quotes from more than one or two people. The editor's decision on news-story content is final.

News stories, which are all carefully selected, must meet our criteria for news to qualify for publication – for instance, the news must be recent.

By that, we mean that it must have happened today or within the last week or so, or is happening soon.  There are some exceptions, at the editor's discretion.

News stories must also be a fit for the topics we cover. But first and foremost, the story must contain news. If it's not a news story, we can't consider it.

Contributors may be asked for further information or clarification. If this is not received, the story might not be published. We only publish positive news and information, so we are never looking for a negative angle.

We don't provide feedback on why we haven't selected your news story for publication, unless you're seeking broader guidance, which we can offer - please see the section below (advice on sharing your news), for further information.

If we contact you about your news, to write a story about it, and you’d like to participate, but don’t have a press release, we’ll send you questions.

We don't offer content approval prior to publication, for news stories.

If you send us more news about your business or a PR client soon after a previous news story, it's unlikely we'll publish it, particularly if the previous news story is still on our home page.

We don’t accept news or answers to questions by phone or do phone interviews, have meetings to discuss news stories or offer 'discovery' calls or meetings. It's an online-only business.

On publication, we will send you a link. If you send us your news and it hasn't been published within two days, this means that we're not planning to use it (the lead time is longer for features).

We can't provide names of contacts at other publications, if you wish to share your news further.

While we share all news stories and features on our social media, we can't accept requests to share them through specific channels.

Advice on sharing your news

If you’d like further guidance on how to get press coverage in our magazine or feedback on your press release, you can make a booking with us, for half an hour of professional, expert advice (this is not free).

We also have a free PR guide available for reference here. We don't offer PR services.

There is further info about how we work in the editorial-policy section at the foot of our home page.

Hope this helps – and look forward to hearing from you! â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
