Isle of Mull Cheese has announced the launch of its Hebridean Cream Liqueur.

Available to buy from Tuesday 27 October, the waiting list opens today.

Created, distilled and bottled at the family-run Sgriob-ruadh dairy farm and distillery on the Isle of Mull, the liqueur has been created using aged spirit produced using the whey by-product of the cheese production the farm is known for.

The spirit is then combined with cream created from the farm’s milk and aged with oak to produce a smooth cream liqueur.

Described as featuring notes of caramel, toasted nuts, vanilla and cocoa, the liqueur  is bottled at 17% ABV and is said to be best served over ice, as a cocktail ingredient or added to a festive coffee.

Lily Reade, granddaughter of Isle of Mull Cheese co-founder Chris Reade, is behind the new limited-edition Isle of Mull Hebridean Cream Liqueur.

A member of the third generation of the Reade family who own and run the farm and distillery, she said: “I’ve grown up watching my family make something from whatever the farm and the island gives us.

“Whether it was milk from the cows or rhubarb from the plentiful patches growing on the land, very little went to waste – there was always an idea to turn it into something we could eat, drink or share with others. This ethos extends to the production processes we use, fully powered by sustainable energy created using island resources.

“That way of thinking has always stayed with me, so in partnership with my family we created Isle of Mull Hebridean Cream Liqueur, a product which brings together so many parts of what we do here.

“It uses the whey left from our cheesemaking to create the spirit, which is then blended with cream from our cows, bringing together so many areas of our expertise to create a liqueur we believe will appeal to people across the world.”

The ceramic bottle in which the new release is encased continues to tell the story of the farm and the family who have run it for three generations.

The bottle design features unique prints made using materials gathered from Sgriob-ruadh, including hair from the farm’s cows, leaves and foliage. These were raku-fired onto tiles to create the original textures and markings used in the bottle design, making it a distinctive keepsake celebrating the farm, the animals and the landscape behind the liqueur.

The liqueur is available to buy at an RRP of £29.99, with the first 100 bottles encased in a home-made gift bag, crafted on the farm by Chris.

Limited to 600 bottles at launch, the new 50cl release will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on Tuesday 27 October online and at the Isle of Mull Cheese Glass Barn farm shop.

The launch marks a new chapter for the family business, which has grown from the farm co-founded by Chris 46 years ago into an internationally recognised producer of award-winning Isle of Mull cheese.
