Hallowe'en at Drumlanrig Castle
Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfriesshire is bringing its past to life this Hallowe’en, as its family-friendly Hallowe’en experience returns, with a new outdoor trail inspired by the real people, peculiar events and ghostly stories found in its own history.
Named ‘The Spectral Salon of Drumlanrig’, this year’s Hallowe’en trail draws on documented historical figures and real events, giving families the chance to discover some of the stranger chapters of the castle’s past while exploring its spectacular grounds.
The trail has been designed with a playful, slightly eccentric tone, imagining the elegant world of a 19th-century salon populated by unexpected spectral guests. Children will follow the trail, solve clues and meet a cast of mysterious characters as they uncover the stories behind some of Drumlanrig’s most unusual historical tales.
A new event has also been introduced for 2026. Drumlanrig After Dark takes place on Saturday 31 October, featuring atmospheric illuminations, spooky characters and trick-or-treating. Castle tours will also offer a seasonal twist this Hallowe’en.
The Hallowe’en trail takes place on 10-12 October, 16-19 October and 23-25 October. Tickets cost £15 for children over three and £10 for children under three.
