A taste of the Alps comes to Kinross-shire this Christmas
Loch Leven’s Larder in Kinross-shire has announced that it’s set to transform into a little corner of The Alps this Christmas, bringing the warmth, romance and indulgence of an Alpine winter to Scotland.
From Friday 13 November through to Christmas Eve, guests at the popular destination farm shop, deli, gift shop and café, will be invited to step into a festive Alpine world of mountain-inspired food, drink and entertainment, offering different experiences by day and by night.
The attractions will include Swiss and Scottish sharing platters, fondue, an Alpine bar, a silent disco and a lively German beer festival.
For those looking for a more exclusive experience, the Larder is offering cosy and beautifully styled Alpine Lodges which will provide the perfect setting for Christmas parties, family gatherings, celebrations, corporate entertaining and groups of friends.
Adding an extra element of Scotland to this Alpine experience will be the installation of an inflatable curling rink in the grounds, providing visitors with the opportunity to try this classic Scottish winter pastime, which is a passion for the Larder’s owners, Rob and Emma Niven, not to mention one of the inspirations behind bringing the Alpine Experience to the Larder:
“The run up to Christmas at Loch Leven’s Larder is going to be incredible this year,” said Emma.
“We are beyond thrilled to announce that we are introducing something completely new and exciting – a six-week long, fully immersive Alpine experience which has something for everyone.
“The curling is an additional entertainment option we are confident will prove very popular. It will be easy for guests to combine a little friendly competition with dining, drinks and the wider Alpine experience on offer.
“Rob, as a fifth-generation curler, and current World Curling Board executive director, is always keen to promote this ancient Scottish winter sport, which increasingly has a new younger, following,” Emma explained:
“Having visited Alpine countries many times on curling trips, we figured that we could bring something to our family business this Christmas that combined our love of the Alps, with its charming festive traditions, and delicious food and drink, with our love of curling, all with a traditional Scottish twist!
“Each event we are running will have its own character, giving guests a reason to return throughout the six weeks the Alpine Village is here, experiencing it in a completely different way,” she added.
During the day, the Larder’s Alpine experience will operate as an extension of the café, bringing the invigorating Alpine atmosphere to life from morning through to afternoon. Guests can enjoy a selection of Alpine-inspired dishes, warming drinks, festive bakes and seasonal treats, creating a relaxed daytime experience for families, shoppers, visitors and those simply looking to enjoy a little taste of the mountains.
Alpine evenings will run on Fridays and Saturdays, with the Alpine bar serving specially curated cocktails and drinks, along with sharing platters and fondue.
Summing up what visitors can expect, Emma said: “Think snow-covered mountain villages, long wooden tables, candlelight, twinkling lights and the unmistakable feeling of coming in from the cold to something delicious and welcoming.”
