Glasgow jeweller showcases her work at Tea Green Events market

A Glasgow jeweller, inspired by the city's colours and architecture, will join 70 other independent designers at a design market next week.

Rebecca Devine, who runs Smith and Gibb from a home studio in Glasgow’s south side,  will showcase and sell her work at the Tea Green Events market at The Burrell Collection on Saturday 7 (10am-5pm) and Sunday 8 November 2026 (11am-5pm).

After exploring a range of jewellery-making techniques at Cardonald College in Glasgow, Rebecca studied jewellery design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. There, she discovered her passion for enamelling, focusing on recycled silver, enamel, copper, and occasionally gold.

Rebecca said, “I like to make pieces with personality that will bring joy to the wearer and admirer.

”Sometimes it’s just that everyday pop of colour or a piece that moves when you move.  Also, we live in Scotland, which can be dark and dreary, so it’s nice to have a bit of colour to lift your outfit or mood.

”Jewellery is very personal and can say a lot about the person wearing it. My designs are part of my own personality and through colour, movement and form I love to experiment with new ideas.”

She added: “I love walking, with my children or on my own, and am always taking photos of colours, combinations and architectural details that inspire my designs.

“The movement of nature can spark ideas for jewellery that moves with the wearer, while the changing seasons influence my enamelling.  I love experimenting with different materials and components, allowing designs to develop organically. I’m also fortunate to live a short walk away from The Burrell Collection which is a wonderful space, combining art with the outdoors.”

Rebecca’s company name, Smith & Gibb, originated from her time at Duncan of Jordanstone Art School. Part of her degree-show collection was inspired by love letters sent between her grandparents, Trevor Smith and Margaret Gibb. The project inspired Rebecca to continue designing and making jewellery.

Rebecca has exhibited at Tea Green’s markets since they began in 2014. She said: ”I’m so grateful to have a loyal customer base coming to see me year on year, alongside new customers.

”The Tea Green markets are now so well established in my calendar and for the people of Glasgow who know the quality is high. People also want to see and touch things in real life, to have a chat and a catch-up. It’s also a way for me to reveal new collections, as I will do this year, and to gather feedback.”

Tea Green Events was launched by Dundee jeweller Joanne MacFadyen in 2014 after she identified a lack of opportunities for independent designers to showcase and sell their work. The company specialises in carefully curated design markets, free of charge and open to all, held in some of Scotland’s most iconic, cultural venues.

Joanne said: “We’re always delighted to welcome back makers and designers like Rebecca, who sit alongside the new talent emerging each year. I’m proud to have built a community as well as a showcase for the very best of Scotland’s design talent.

"Buying directly from independent makers not only supports small businesses but also offers the chance to discover thoughtfully crafted pieces with a story to tell.”
