West Lothian housebuilder creates buzz with new homes for bees

A West Lothian housebuilder is celebrating World Bee Day (20 May) by constructing a different type of home at a range of developments across Scotland.

Barratt Homes, which is currently building a new community at Bangour Village in Broxburn, is marking the occasion by offering residents the chance to install a special insect home in their garden, to help make the development and surrounding area more bee-friendly.

The bee and bug homes will provide another habitat for insects and a safe nesting environment for bees.

The initiative is part of the housebuilder’s broader mission to create thriving communities for both people and nature. Developments are designed with open green spaces, hedgehog highways, nesting boxes and planting schemes that enhance biodiversity and wellbeing.

Lorraine Paterson, sales and marketing director for Barratt Homes East Scotland, said: "We're looking forward to marking World Bee Day by encouraging Bangour Village residents to create new habitats for vital pollinators at our Broxburn development.

"Bees play an essential role in supporting biodiversity, and installing bee and bug homes is a simple but effective way to help the local bee population to thrive.

“Designing communities that work in harmony with nature is central to Barratt Homes’ ethos. Alongside features such as open green spaces, we hope initiatives like this will encourage the community to take small, positive steps of their own to support wildlife and help create a more sustainable future.”

Barratt Homes’ Bangour Village development offers a selection of three and four-bedroom homes, with prices starting from £275,995.

Residents at the development are invited to visit the sales office to enquire about receiving a new bee and bug hotel, which can be installed in their garden.

World Bee Day is celebrated on 20 May each year to raise awareness of the role of bees and other pollinators in the ecosystem.
