Popeyes® launches its Louisiana chicken in the capital

Mar 15

Fried-chicken restaurant Popeyes® has opened its first Edinburgh location, on Princes Street.

It launched in the capital on 14 March, with confetti cannons and a brass band, welcoming the queue of customers, which had started forming from 10.30pm the night before.

Founded in 1972, in Louisiana, Popeyes® opened its first outlet in the UK in 2021 and now has seven in Scotland. It is planning to add more than 45 new UK restaurants this year, aiming to generate more than 2000 jobs.

The menu on offer at the 86-seat Princes Street restaurant includes the Popeyes® chicken sandwich and wings. Each piece of its chicken is marinated for 12 hours in Louisiana seasoning, then hand-breaded and battered.

From today (15 March) onwards, Popeyes® will also be serving up its breakfast menu from 8am to 11am.  It features the ‘big Cajun roll’, Cajun hash browns and Nutella-topped buttermilk biscuits.

Commenting on the launch event, Tom Crowley, Popeyes® UK chief executive officer, said: “The turnout in Edinburgh has been incredible. People across Scotland have shown their love for our Louisiana chicken, and Edinburgh has now proved just as popular. We look forward to bringing a taste of New Orleans to even more customers across the city."

Popeyes® is at 131-133 Princes Street, Edinburgh. Opening hours are 8am until 10pm.
