A new dining club is launching its first event, at Thamel restaurant on 11 East London Street, on Wednesday 12 February, 6.30pm-8.30pm.

Social Appetite, founded and hosted by Rosie Maddocks, will bring together “adventurous foodies”, to enjoy the different cuisines on offer in Edinburgh.

The inaugural event will take the form of a three-course Nepalese dinner, but it’s not only about food: diners will play a food-related or a team game between each course, to help break the ice.

Rosie moved to Edinburgh from Manchester, with her partner a few years ago, to experience life in a different city.  In her quest to meet people and try new food, she discovered there was a gap in the market for the kind of events she wanted to attend.  She therefore decided to create a community of like-minded people, herself, through Social Appetite.

Commenting on her decision to launch the business, she said: "Stepping out of your comfort zone can be terrifying, but the courage to keep going despite the fear often leads to rewards that are beyond anything you ever imagined."

Rosie’s goal is to choose cuisines that people might not have already tried, such as Ethiopian or vegan Vietnamese. Areas of the city where Social Appetite events will take place include the Old Town; Stockbridge and the New Town; Marchmont; Leith; Fountainbridge; and possibly Portobello.  The events will be held during the week, a few times per month, but this could increase.  The cost to attend the first event is £44.04.
