David Wilson Homes East Scotland, part of Barratt Redrow, has launched a nationwide search to find the most imaginative young designer in Scotland.
The housebuilder’s ‘Built by Imagination’ initiative is open to primary-school-aged children, inviting them to put their creativity to the test this summer by redesigning a room inside one of the housebuilder's four-bedroom family homes.
Children aged five to 12 are being asked to pick up their pencils and draw how they would transform the flexible dining room or study space inside the Glenbervie house type.
From a playroom to a home cinema, science lab or art studio, pupils are being encouraged to let their imagination run wild and turn the space into whatever they can dream up.
Entries are open across two age categories, five to eight years and nine to 12 years, and will be judged on creativity and originality rather than artistic ability.
To enter, participants complete their design and submit a photograph alongside a short description explaining their vision. They can access floorplan designs on the website for inspiration.
Standout entries will be brought to life using render image technology, giving young designers the chance to see their ideas transformed into a fully visualised room.
Leading the judging is Alison Condie, managing director of David Wilson Homes Scotland and former technical director who oversaw the architectural, engineering and design processes required to turn new homes into reality.
She said: “Every David Wilson home is built around how families live, and that means giving them space that can grow and change with them. Our Built by Imagination initiative puts that idea directly into the hands of children, who have a unique and instinctive sense of what makes a house feel like home.
“This is an invitation to Scotland's young designers to show us what they would do with a room of their own. We expect the entries will tell us a great deal about what a family home really means to the next generation and may even inspire some of our future home designs.”
Three regional winners will be selected from across the areas in which David Wilson Homes builds, including north Scotland, west Scotland and east Scotland. Each will receive a £50 Smyths Toys voucher, with the overall winner receiving an additional £150 voucher. Terms and conditions apply.
