Watch company shortlisted for family-business award

MacKinnon Watches, a business which celebrates Scottish culture and heritage, through its range of watches and jewellery, has been shortlisted in the Allica Bank Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
The business, founded in 2020 by husband-and-wife team, Belinda and Matt Murphy, in a cottage in the Highlands, is up for the Family Business Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
Over the last few years, the business has taken on two full-time team members and one part-time employee, in addition to Belinda and Matt, and the products are now created in a workshop in Livingston.
Recent developments include the launch of a US subsidiary, to support American wholesale operations, as the business grows internationally, and a collaboration with the Scotland football team.
Matt said: “One of the main strengths of MacKinnon Watches is that the business is built around celebrating Scottish culture, heritage and storytelling.
“Every tartan has a story behind it, whether it is connected to a clan, a place, a university, football team or a personal family history. Our products allow customers to carry that story with them in a meaningful way.
“We use authentic woven tartan from Scottish mills, which is an important part of keeping the product genuine and rooted in Scottish craftsmanship.
“We are also proud to work with respected Scottish organisations such as the National Trust for Scotland, the University of Edinburgh and the Scotland football team, creating products that celebrate different parts of Scottish culture and lifestyle.
“At its heart, the strength of the business is that it is about more than watches. It is about helping people celebrate their connection to Scotland.”
Belinda added: "Matt and I are so proud to be shortlisted for Family Business Entrepreneur of the Year at this year's Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

The Allica Bank Great British Entrepreneur awards will be announced on Monday 16 November, at the awards ceremony, held at the Grosvenor House hotel, on Park Lane in London.
