Umbrella Vinyl launches 'Sunshine Sundays'
Umbrella Vinyl, on Valleyfield Street, is bringing a ray of sunshine to the darker months with the launch of 'Sunshine Sundays'.
Starting on Sunday 2 November, the secondhand-vinyl shop will transform into an ‘uplifting, tropical escape’ on the first Sunday of every month, from 12-4pm, until spring 2026.
Laura Thomson, co-owner of Umbrella Vinyl, said: “The days are getting shorter and darker, so we wanted to offer people a bright, fun haven.
“On the first Sunday of the winter months, we’ll be playing feel-good, sun-soaked tunes only.
“Music has a profound effect on people’s mood and well-being. Sunshine Sundays will offer a simple remedy to winter gloom – good vibes, great music and a splash of sunshine right in the heart of Edinburgh.
“Customers will be transported to sunnier climes - no passport required.”
Co-owners, Laura, Josh and Nick, will be playing latin, calypso and afrobeat tunes on Sunshine Sundays, and the shop will be decked out accordingly.
The team also named their own favourite ‘sunshine songs’. Laura chose "Girl from Ipanema" by Astrud Gilberto: “Gorgeous Latin sounds that transport you to a beach in Brazil,” she enthused.
Josh selected "Mas Que Nada" by Jorge Ben. He said: “For me it’s the perfect sunshine tune. It’s a tropical masterpiece.” Nick preferred "Summertime" by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong: “It reminds me of all those hours spent in the car anticipating Dorset beach holidays,” he reminisced.
