An online magazine for and about businesses of all sizes, in Edinburgh and beyond

As part of the global Outdoor Office Day, on 12 June, The Outsiders networking group is running a free event to show the benefits of taking your work outdoors.
It takes place at the Holyrood Park Education Centre, from 1-5pm and the agenda for the day includes a picnic; networking; group work on how to tackle business challenges; and co-working at the Holyrood Park Education Centre, followed by drinks at Bellfield Brewery from 5-7.30pm.
Katie Paterson, the founder of The Outsiders, runs regular, outdoor networking events for a community of 400 Edinburgh-based freelancers and solo business owners:
“We spend 90 per cent of our time indoors, and freelancers are among the most isolated workers out there,” said Katie, who launched the group in 2024:
“It’s about getting people together, and reclaiming the outdoors, not just for our weekends, but for our working lives too. Evidence shows that spending time outdoors enhances our creativity and boosts our productivity and motivation.”
The event is supported by Historic Environment Scotland and Business Gateway.
