Orkney accountancy firm expands to the mainland

Kirkwall-based advisory and accountancy firm, CRC, has extended its reach to the mainland, through its acquisition of Aberdeenshire firm, BBKS & Co.
The purchase of the Banchory-based accountancy firm is a first for CRC and is the latest in a number of major milestones for the business and its founder and managing director Calvin Cooper.
BBKS & Co had been owned by its founder, Louise Birse, for nearly four decades, who wished to retire and pass the business on to a new pair of hands.
The BBKS & Co team remain in Banchory, and it is expected that the acquisition will
allow the company to create more jobs in both Orkney and Aberdeenshire.
CRC has been offering accountancy and business consultancy services from Kirkwall, for nearly eight years. The firm started life in Calvin’s home office in 2018 and has expanded to employ 10 staff members.
Calvin said: “Bringing BBKS & Co into the CRC fold has been an incredibly exciting step for us this year.
“This marks a new chapter for CRC, strengthening our team and expanding the expertise we can offer our clients.”
He added: “CRC has been successfully serving a number of clients on the Scottish mainland for years now, but having a base and team in Aberdeenshire will make a world of difference to us.
“Our business is able to deliver services remotely as well as in person. Over the next few
years we’re committed to growing our team in Orkney as well as our new base in
Aberdeenshire.
“This expansion is an exciting opportunity for us to have a physical presence in a new
geographic location.”
Louise originally founded BBKS & Co on a part-time basis using contacts she had made while working in the oil industry.
She commented: “Selling the business is the obvious choice at this time of my life.
“My husband has been retired for about nine years, I have family and friends around me, and I have loads of hobbies – it’s time I started to enjoy them all.”
“That said, the reality of giving up something which I have loved and put my heart and soul into for 40 years is still a scary thought.
“I would like to say to everyone who I have employed over the years and the amazing
clients who have supported me for such a long time, you have all made me incredibly proud to employ and support with our collective skills.
“Of all the people we have met during the process of selling my business I feel blessed that I have found a team who I will have the utmost respect and pride for as they develop what I created into something even more special.
“I would not have the business to sell if I had not had the support of the staff and the clients and I thank them all.”
BBKS & Co will become CRC incorporating BBKS & Co for the first 12 months following
the purchase, before becoming CRC.
