Edinburgh is many things, to many people – and here we share what Bob Duncan, managing director at Rettie financial services particularly loves about our capital city.

What is your favourite part of Edinburgh?

The Blackford Pond area is special. It’s where we’ve taken early walks with both our kids over the years, and it holds so many great memories. It’s peaceful, surrounded by greenery and has that perfect mix of open space and wildlife that makes you feel a world away from the city, even though you're still right in it.

Where is your favourite place to eat in Edinburgh?

Pizza Express in Morningside might not be the fanciest spot in town, but with two fussy kids and being just a short drive away, it ticks all the boxes. The menu’s reliable, the staff are brilliant with families, and, most importantly, everyone leaves happy (and full).

What is your favourite place for a walk, a run or to play golf or sport in Edinburgh?

The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is a favourite, especially for trips with my son. The facilities are fantastic, and the setting in an old quarry makes it feel totally unique.

What's your favourite shop in Edinburgh?

I’m a big coffee fan, and Roundsquare in Morningside is one of my top spots. It’s got a relaxed, welcoming vibe and consistently great coffee. When the sun’s out, it’s lovely to sit by the window and take a quiet moment. I often meet clients there; it’s an informal space that works really well for open, relaxed conversations.

Where's the best place in Edinburgh on a sunny day?

The Pentland Hills are hard to beat on a clear day. We’re lucky enough to live just a 10-minute walk away, so having all that open space right on our doorstep is something we never take for granted. With endless trails, panoramic views and just the right amount of peace and quiet, it’s the perfect way to escape the city – without actually leaving it.
