My Edinburgh: Amanda Oswald of the Pain Care Clinic

Edinburgh is many things, to many people – and here we share what Amanda Oswald, owner of the Pain Care Clinic in Leith particularly loves about our capital city.

What is your favourite part of Edinburgh?

Although I was brought up in Morningside and still have a soft spot for the area, I

now live and work in the north of the city. Since I moved back last year I have been

enjoying exploring Leith where I work, Broughton where I live and everything in

between. I particularly like the fact that I can walk to and from work along the Water

of Leith – not bad for a commute.

Where is your favourite place to eat in Edinburgh?

That has to be Herringbone in Abbeyhill. The fact that the building is the former

public toilets appeals to my sense of humour. On a more serious note, it’s a lovely

laid-back space where you can relax outside with cocktails on a summer’s evening or

enjoy the delicious food in the restaurant.

What is your favourite place for a walk, a run or to play golf or sport in

Edinburgh?

I like to walk wherever I’m going whether it’s to work, to an appointment or to meet

friends. This often means I can clock up several miles in a day and get some good

cardiovascular exercise on the hills. It also means I get to see all sorts of areas,

especially when I get lost! I particularly like the view from Calton Hill, which is well

worth the effort, and have now incorporated it into my regular early morning walk.

What’s your favourite shop in Edinburgh?

I love Valvona & Crolla because it brings back memories of when my Dad took me there 1960s. Just walking into the shop and smelling that wonderful deli aroma takes me right

back.

Where’s the best place in Edinburgh on a sunny day?

Portobello Beach is always lovely when it’s sunny especially if you get there early in

the day to beat the crowds. But being anywhere outdoors in Edinburgh on a sunny

day makes me happy just to be here.
