The dynamics between farming and forestry and some of the many challenges facing the rural economy will be explored at the launch of The UK Forest Market Report 2025 in Edinburgh on 18 November and in London, on 19 November.

Published annually by Tilhill Forestry and Goldcrest Land and Forestry Group, the report records forestry transactions and investment trends across the UK.

Xander Mahony, head of forestry investment at Tilhill and Jon Lambert, partner at Goldcrest Land and Forestry Group, will deliver the 2025 report at the launch conferences in Edinburgh and London. They will share analysis of the UK’s commercial forestry market and examine competing pressures on land use amid a rapidly evolving rural landscape.

Xander said: “Forestry and farming can be uncomfortable bedfellows in the rural space. However, there are more pressing shared challenges than the tussles between us. Common uncertainties include government policy, product prices, cost inflation and changing weather patterns. In the face of climate and economic drivers, we need collaborative long-term planning.”

Jon added “All property assets whether forestry, farms, commercial buildings or roads and infrastructure have something in common – land. All land users – owners, occupiers and managers – must be accountable custodians. We always need to work together to find synergy and ensure this extraordinary asset is appropriately stewarded.”

The Edinburgh event, held at The Signet Library, will feature speaker Rebecca Wilson, a fifth-generation farmer named in the Sunday Times’ ‘Young Power List’, who will share a farming perspective on integrating trees and timber into modern land management.

Will Anderson, chief executive of Seafield and Strathspey Estates, will talk about combining traditional estate management with forestry innovation. The event will be chaired by Norman Murray, senior partner at Grant Woodlands Partnership.
