A family-run pizza business has opened its fourth restaurant, Social by Matto, at 97 Shandwick Place. The other three are in Newington, Meadowbank and Morningside.

The menu features Venetian cicchetti for grazing or takeaway, small plates, sharing plates, pizza and pizette, as well as indulgent desserts, made from high-quality Italian and Scottish ingredients.

One of the most popular dishes is the ‘hot goat’ – a pizza with ‘nduja, chorizo, goat’s-cheese crumble, fried padrón pepper and chilli flakes. The dessert menu features treats such as a pistachio affogato.

Social by Matto is also thought to be the first pizza restaurant in the city, to provide diners with a golden pair of scissors to cut their pizzas. The theme continues in the kitchen, which has a gold-mirrored pizza oven.

There’s a choice of sitting at the bar, in the main restaurant or on the terrace.

Nel Petrov of Social by Matto said: “Social by Matto has a very different vibe from our pizzerias. We wanted to build somewhere to come to eat, drink and party. We’re all about creating connections and memories over great food and drink.”
