An online magazine for and about businesses of all sizes, in Edinburgh and beyond

Communications agency, Feel Good Comms, has announced the launch of the first Edinburgh ‘feel-good’ index, an initiative designed to celebrate the people and places that make Edinburgh.
Feel Good founder, Chris Batchelor, who started up the agency earlier this month, said the index is built on the belief that the most successful businesses are those that make the world a genuinely happier place. The agency’s mission is to champion these local establishments and ensure that their contributions to the city are recognised and shared.
To compile the inaugural index, Feel Good Comms received nominations from over 100 Edinburgh residents. An analysis of consumer reviews was also used. The research revealed a trend in consumer behaviour: all respondents gave a score of four or five out of five when asked how much a brand’s ‘feel-good factor’ influences where they choose to spend their money.
Chris also reported that the human element remains the most critical factor for business success, with 40 per cent of respondents citing friendly and welcoming staff as the primary reason why they love a specific business. This was followed by overall atmosphere and high-quality products, which each received 20 per cent of the vote, while a commitment to ethical values and deep community roots each accounted for 10 per cent of the findings:
“Feel Good Comms was born out of a desire to champion the businesses that genuinely make the world a happier place,” explained Chris: “Being Edinburgh based, part of our mission is to help local businesses tell their stories so they can be celebrated. The feel-good index is not about being number one, but rather about honouring every business nominated by the community, and we’re excited to build the list over time.”
The index features more than 50 businesses and organisations, from sectors such as wellness, bars, restaurants and leisure. It includes Duddingston Golf Club and Soul Water Sauna, as well as Dulse, SUSHISAMBA and the Brunswick Book Club.
A copy of the index will be provided to every business that was nominated, and Chris is also planning to publish it on the Feel Good Comms website.
While the initial index has now been unveiled, nominations to join the index online are still open, for favourite local businesses. Nominations can be submitted by emailing feelgoodindex@feelgoodcomms.co.uk.
