Hays Community Hub launches Christmas appeal to support Craigmillar families
Hays Community Hub is calling on local businesses and organisations to help make Christmas brighter for families across Craigmillar by taking part in its annual Christmas Food Drive.
Based on Hay Avenue and run by social enterprise Places for People (PfP), the community space is open seven days a week and provides free facilities for local organisations, groups and residents, alongside a range of projects designed to support the local community.
One of its initiatives is the Hays Community Pantry, run by a dedicated team of volunteers, and supported through donations from businesses and local residents, to provide essential food items to those who need them most.
As the festive season approaches, demand for support increases significantly and the hub is appealing to local businesses and organisations to help them ensure families enjoy a traditional Christmas meal regardless of their circumstances.
Head of social impact Jamie Dickinson said: "Everything we provide to our customers at Christmas is completely free, and none of it would be possible without the generosity of our community.
“Every year we see first-hand the difference that practical support can make to families facing financial pressures. Whether it's food for a Christmas dinner or a gift for a child, these small acts of kindness help bring joy, dignity and comfort to local people.
“We're encouraging businesses of all sizes to get involved this year. Every contribution will make a real difference."
The hub is seeking donations of festive food and everyday essentials, including tinned and dried goods, Christmas puddings, biscuits, chocolates, sauces, stuffing, long-life milk, toiletries and household items. Donations of children's toys and gifts are also welcomed.
