Fifth House creates new brand identity for health organisation

Edinburgh creative agency, Fifth House, has created a new brand identity for the organisation formerly known as Voluntary Health Scotland.

Now known as Health Creation Scotland, the organisation worked in partnership with Fifth House to create the new identity, following a collaborative strategic and creative process designed to reflect the organisation’s role as a national voice for Scotland’s third-sector health organisations.

At the heart of the new visual identity is a sound-wave symbol, to represent voice, listening and amplification. The identity is supported by a “confident and optimistic colour palette” which seeks to reflect authority and credibility in combination with warmth, energy and approachability, Fifth House explained.

Tejesh Mistry, chief executive of Health Creation Scotland, said: “Becoming Health Creation Scotland is about much more than changing our name or logo. It reflects where we are going as an organisation and the positive, ambitious role we believe the third sector has in creating better health across Scotland.

“Working with Fifth House has been a genuinely cathartic process. They have challenged us in the right way, listened carefully and had enormous patience while helping us articulate who we are and what we want to become.

“They are a powerhouse of an agency. The team consistently went above and beyond what we expected and they have been fantastic to work with throughout. What we have ended up with feels bold, distinctive and, importantly, feels like us.”

Jonny Kermode, founding creative director at Fifth House, commented: “A lot of strategic thinking had already gone into the move to Health Creation Scotland, so our job was to understand what that new organisation should look, sound and feel like.

“One of the strongest themes that kept coming through was voice. Health Creation Scotland doesn’t simply broadcast its own views; it brings together the knowledge, expertise and lived experience of its members and communities and helps amplify those voices.

“That gave us the foundation for the sound-wave identity. It’s simple, but it carries a lot of meaning: voice, listening, amplification and many different voices coming together.”

He added: “We also wanted to avoid all the visual clichés associated with health care. The result needed to have enough authority to sit confidently alongside government and national organisations, while still feeling optimistic, warm and fundamentally human.”

The new Health Creation Scotland identity is now being rolled out across the organisation’s website, publications, campaigns, events and communications.

Really pleased to see this project getting some coverage. A brilliant team to work with, and a brand we’re genuinely proud to have helped shape.
