Entrepreneur florist launches flower vending machine in Edinburgh

Edinburgh florist and entrepreneur, Kayleigh McAllister, of Penelope Fleur, has announced the launch of Bloom Box, described as “the first flower-vending machine in Scotland.”

Bloom Box is based at the St James Quarter, near the Little King Street entrance and is currently operating as a pilot site, with plans to expand.

The vending machine offers a selection of eight hand-tied bouquets, created daily. The machine is re-stocked every day, and throughout the day, as demand requires.

Bouquet buyers can choose from pastel arrangements; bright and vibrant seasonal mixes; classic white and green combinations; and romantic pink themes. Flowers are seasonal and the bouquets, which cost between £35-£45, feature flowers such as roses, ranunculus, tulips and hydrangeas, to name a few.

Kayleigh said: “Bloom Box was created to make high-quality, design-led floristry more accessible. We saw a gap in the market for luxury flowers available outside traditional shop hours – particularly for last-minute gifting. The concept combines convenience with craftsmanship, ensuring customers can access fresh, professionally arranged flowers 24/7.”

She added: “This is about making flowers available when people actually need them – whether for a last-minute gift, a spontaneous gesture, or ‘just because’.”

Kayleigh had already expanded into the market for on-demand flowers, through Deliveroo and Uber Eats, where her bouquets have been available for the last two years: “This has been a really valuable way of reaching new customers who may not typically visit a florist in person,” she explained:

“Bloom Box felt like the natural next step. The vending machine allows us to further extend the convenience, by offering fresh, luxury bouquets 24/7 in a high-footfall location, with the bouquets all designed and made daily by our small Edinburgh-based team at Penelope Fleur.

“In many ways, Deliveroo and Uber Eats helped validate the concept that customers do want quality flowers available on-demand – Bloom Box simply brought that idea into a physical retail format.”

Penelope Fleur was founded in 2018 and is based at The Stables, Drum Estate in Edinburgh. It specialises in luxury bouquets; weddings and large-scale floral design; corporate floral subscriptions and installations; and event styling.
