Edinburgh designer Mairi Helena marks Botanics glasshouse reopening with new collection
Award-winning Scottish textile and interiors designer, Mairi Helena, has launched a new botanical collection, completing a trilogy of collaborations with the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE).
The Palm House collection is a new range of ceramics, tea towels, aprons and stationery inspired by the iconic glasshouses at RBGE. The collection coincides with the reopening of the RBGE’s Victorian Palm House, marking the third chapter in an ongoing creative partnership between Mairi Helena and one of Scotland’s most beloved cultural institutions.
The Palm House collection draws on the palms, ferns and sweeping foliage housed within RBGE’s newly refurbished Palm House, as well as plants photographed in Mairi’s own garden polytunnel.
Mairi said: “The Palm House at the Botanics is an extraordinary space – otherworldly and calming in equal measure. The reopening of this iconic building feels like the perfect moment to celebrate. I wanted the collection to feel abundant and alive, like you’re standing amongst the palms yourself.”
Helena Lawrence, head of retail at the RBGE said: “It is always a treat to work with Mairi. She brings creativity and attention to detail to each design, and we are delighted to see this new collection now in the Botanics Shop.”
Mairi develops her designs from her own photography of Scotland’s flora, fauna and landscapes.
The ceramics, aprons and stationery ranges from The Palm House collection are now available exclusively in The Botanics Shop at the RBGE.
