An Edinburgh chef will be sharing the secrets of artisan baking at the launch of a show home at a new housing development in Winchburgh, West Lothian.

Daniela Forbes, founder of The Cook Academy, in Edinburgh, specialises in teaching people the craft of artisan sourdough bread and pizza and will be hosting a free, live baking demonstration in the kitchen of Robertson Homes’ show home at the Castle Gate development on Saturday 10 October.

The event will give people the first opportunity to look around the five-bedroom detached ‘Miller’ show home, from Robertson Homes’ brand new ‘Artisan’ collection, while enjoying freshly baked breads and pizza.

Sharon Spinelli, sales and marketing director at Robertson Homes, said: “The homes in our new collection are named after the crafts of our artisanal predecessors and with the show home being a Miller design, we wanted to invite Daniela, one of Edinburgh’s best artisan bakers, to demonstrate her skills.

“We can’t wait for the beautiful smell of freshly baked breads to waft through this luxurious and spacious five-bed home and our guests will also have the opportunity to take home some of the amazing food made by hand, on the day.”

Daniela, who trained at the Edinburgh School of Food and Wine and Leiths School of Food and Wine said: “I can’t wait to demonstrate artisan baking in this fantastic kitchen and showing people how to make delicious bakes in their own homes.

“Visitors on the day can enjoy freshly baked focaccia with seasonal toppings, really good extra-virgin olive oil, interesting dips and spreads and a selection of Italian-style charcuterie, antipasti and seasonal vegetables.

“There will also be small pizza and flatbread bites as part of the baking demonstration, so something for everybody to enjoy. With National Baking Week taking place the week after the event, it is a great opportunity for people to pick up some tips.”

Robertson Homes is building 71 three, four and five-bedroom homes at Castle Gate, named Draper, Silversmith, Cutler, Cooper and Carver. The development is the second for Robertson Homes in Winchburgh, following the recent completion of the award-winning Glendevon Grange development of 53 homes.

Sharon added: “Our previous development in Winchburgh was a huge success and we are already experiencing high levels of interest in Castle Gate.

“Winchburgh is part of one of the largest placemaking projects in the UK and just 12 miles from Edinburgh, it provides great connectivity into the city centre and the wider travel network, including Edinburgh Airport. It is also home to four new schools.

“Our Artisan collection was named to reflect the skilled craftsmanship which goes into building a Robertson home and we are excited to give people in Winchburgh the first opportunity to see inside one of the new homes which will also showcase inspiring interior design.

The show-home launch event is free to attend and takes place on a drop-in basis between 12pm and 3pm on Saturday 10 October. It will feature family entertainment and refreshments.
