Trainer launches her first fitness for gardeners workshop
Personal trainer, Tracy Griffen, of Griffen Fitness is launching her first gardeners’ fitness workshop, on Thursday 19 March.
From 3-5pm, Tracy will show gardeners ways to keep energy levels up and to reduce aches and pains.
The workshop will cover a range of topics including gardening for functional fitness; strength exercises for core, legs and balance; mindfulness; how to improve grip strength; stretches to aid recovery from heavy digging and weeding, and to prevent injuries; and exercises specifically for gardening-induced backache. All exercises will be emailed to participants after the session.
As well as 20 years of personal-training experience, Tracy has a horticultural qualification. Last year she gained the RHS level-2 certificate in the principles of plant growth and
development.
She said: “We gardeners get so engrossed in what we’re doing with plants, that we often forget to look after our own body. ‘Gardeners back’ is a common ailment, but there are ways of making gardening easier on the body. I want to teach people how to do this, so that they can get the most out of the growing season.”
Some of the workshop will take place outdoors, so warm clothing is advised, as well as hiking boots or sturdy shoes.
The workshop takes place at Leith Community Croft, 4 John's Place, Leith. The cost is just over £20. Vegan nibbles will be provided.
