Marketing and social-media strategist, Suz Bird, of Bird and Emmy, is running a social-media workshop for business, on Thursday 13 August in Breathing Space Studio, Aberdeen, from 10am to 1pm. Up to 12-15 spaces are available.
The event covers creation of a simple social-media strategy for LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram; current user-behaviour trends and why these matter; how to plan, create and repurpose content; tips, techniques and tools to support content creation; SEO basics for social-media captions; and polishing social-media profiles. In-person feedback is provided too.
Suz said: “A lot of social-media training focuses on the mechanics and techniques – how to use Instagram, how to make a reel or how to create a video. That’s useful, but it’s only one piece of the marketing puzzle and doesn’t teach the ‘why’.
“My workshops focus on the strategic role of social media in your business. We look at the foundations: who you’re trying to reach; what you need your marketing to achieve; and how social media, content, email, website, press and events all connect.
“It’s less about doing more, and more about doing the right things, for the right reasons, so your time and content support and facilitate business growth.
“The workshops are interactive – phones are out and we are actively searching, looking and trying things as the workshop unfolds. There is also a peer-to-peer section during the session where workshop attendees buddy up and audit each other’s social accounts with their (newly learnt) strategic objectives in mind.
“Attendees leave with plenty of ‘aha’ moments, as they start to see where they have been losing their way and why they haven’t been getting results from their social-media efforts.
“They leave inspired and excited about using social media in their marketing strategy. They have tons of content ideas and have been given easy ways to repurpose those ideas. New business connections are made too.
Suz, who has more than 25 years’ experience in the marketing industry added:
“My career has grown up alongside digital marketing and social media. I’ve seen time and time again how strong strategic foundations support a successful marketing campaign and how that in turn supports business objectives.
“I want attendees to know that one post isn’t an entire marketing campaign and we’re missing the whole point by focusing on that instead of our customers and target audience. The algorithm isn’t our target audience!
It costs between £55-£65 to attend the event, and the ticket price includes refreshments, sweet treats and social media for business handouts. Attendees must have experience of using LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram and should bring their phone and/or laptop.
Suz is planning to run at least one more workshop in Aberdeen this year and on a quarterly basis in 2027.
