An online magazine for and about businesses of all sizes, in Edinburgh and beyond

Edinburgh is many things, to many people – and here we share what Claire Boulton, head of business development at www.espc.com particularly loves about our capital city.
What is your favourite part of Edinburgh?
My favourite part of Edinburgh has to be Stockbridge. When I moved up from London over 20 years ago, I lived in Comely Bank, and I couldn’t believe my luck in having this beautiful village within a city on my doorstep.
It has a cool mix of independent shops, cafes and bars, as well as the handsome architecture and cobbled streets. I love the buzz of the place but also you have Inverleith Park and the Water of Leith close by for peaceful walks. You don’t feel like you’re in the heart of the city.
Where is your favourite place to eat in Edinburgh?
As a family we love to go to Herringbone – either at Abbeyhill or Goldenacre. It has a friendly, relaxed vibe, with great food and cocktails, and our miniature schnauzer, Minnie, is always made to feel welcome.
For special occasions, such as a rare night out with my husband, it’s hard to beat The Kitchin. The quality of the food and service is incredible – the staff are really friendly and so passionate about the food they are serving.
What is your favourite place for a walk, a run or to play golf or sport in Edinburgh?
We’ve recently discovered the padel-tennis courts at Portobello. Padel is such a fun activity for the whole family to do together and the kids are surprisingly polite about their mum’s lack of hand-to-eye coordination!
What’s your favourite shop in Edinburgh?
I’m a fan of browsing homeware and gift shops, and I’m spoilt for choice in Edinburgh. One of my favourites is An Independent Zebra on Raeburn Place. It’s an ‘Aladdin’s cave’ of pieces by independent creatives and makers.
Where’s the best place in Edinburgh on a sunny day?
Having been brought up near the coast in Sussex, I feel very at home at Portobello – there is nothing like the sea air and the sound of the waves to make me feel energised. At any time of the year, the promenade is always bustling with families, dog-walkers and cyclists – there is always a happy, relaxing vibe to the place. On a sunny day, the views down to East Lothian are incredible.
