More flights available for the Orkney Island Games
Loganair has added more than 30 extra flights to its schedule, in the run up to the Orkney Island Games in July.
The airline said this could bring an additional 1500 visitors to the island.
Luke Lovegrove, chief commercial officer at Loganair, official partner of the Games, said:
“The demand for the Orkney Island Games week is proving very strong and we are really pleased to be playing an integral part in getting spectators – and the all-important athletes – to the island for a week of competing, celebrating and showcasing the world-class scenery and people that make Orkney so unique.
“We have added 32 flights to the standard flight schedule to and from Orkney ensuring there are plenty of seats available for people interested in getting to the island to be part of the action.
Orkney is hosting the 20th International Island Games, joining other host alumni including Bermuda, Gotland, Gibraltar and Guernsey. The Games, taking place from 12-18 July 2025, will bring together athletes from 24 island communities to compete in 12 sports, including archery, athletics, badminton, cycling, football, golf, gymnastics, lawn bowls, sailing, squash, swimming and triathlon.
Kirsty Talbot, Orkney 2025 games director, added:
“Excitement is really building across Orkney, as we prepare to welcome athletes, teams and supporters from 23 other islands to our shores.
“Hosting the International Island Games is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our community, and partnerships like this are key to making it a success.”
Visitors can fly to Orkney from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Shetland, Belfast City, Manchester and London.
The airline operates more than 60,000 flights per year, across 70 routes and carries 1.3m passengers.
