Maki & Ramen raises £20,000 for Edinburgh-based charity, Thistle Foundation

Asian-inspired restaurant chain, Maki & Ramen, has announced that it has raised £20,000 over the last 18 months, for Thistle Foundation, an Edinburgh charity which supports people to cope with the diagnosis of a long-term condition.

Each Monday, for every bowl of ramen sold in Maki & Ramen’s four Edinburgh restaurants between 4pm and 8pm, £1 is donated to Thistle. Team members have  participated in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk and funds were also raised at a recent celebratory event with the charity.

Becca Cuthbertson, marketing lead at Maki & Ramen said: “This collaboration has strengthened our connection with customers, empowered our staff and shown us the impact businesses can have when they actively give back.

“Partnering with Thistle isn’t just about fundraising; it’s about being part of something bigger – helping to build a stronger Edinburgh where everyone feels supported and safe.”

William Oviatt, head of income generation at Thistle Foundation commented: “One in five people in Edinburgh are living with a long-term health condition. It can be a scary, lonely place and for many people it has a huge impact on their lives.

“Our health and social care system is significantly stretched and that’s why partnerships like this are so important. In fact, they’re vital.

“We need to be reaching as many people as we possibly can and that’s why, over the course of the next year, we are focused on raising an additional £100,000 through partnering with like-minded businesses, who believe, like us, that a health crisis doesn’t need to mean a life crisis for people in Scotland.”

Thistle is currently looking for charity partners to help support people in Edinburgh living with a devastating diagnosis. To find out more, contact fundraising@thistle.org.uk.
