Edinburgh dominates national restaurant awards shortlist

Edinburgh’s vibrant food scene is stealing the spotlight once again, with the city earning national recognition at the Catey awards, which take place in London in July.

Three of the six restaurants shortlisted in the newcomer category are from Edinburgh and include Marchmont’s Nàdair, Moss in Stockbridge and Barry Fish in Leith.  Previous winners in this category include The Kitchin, as well as Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles.  Ross Sneddon, pastry chef at The Balmoral has also been named a finalist for the pastry chef of the year award.

Celebrated as one of the UK’s most respected hospitality awards, this year’s shortlist highlights exceptional talent in the capital. More than 100 judges, chosen for their expertise and industry knowledge, and past success as Catey winners themselves, meet for three days of intense debate to discuss the nominees and produce their shortlist.

Sarah Baldry, co chef/patron at Nàdair said: 'It is an honour to be shortlisted as 'best newcomer' in such a prestigious national award within the hospitality industry. We are just a small 20-cover restaurant and to be recognised is truly special. Edinburgh, size wise, is a small city but has such an incredible hospitality community and is spoiled with riches in terms of its food scene.“
