A New Town walking tour on women's history, on 15 March
Historian and researcher, Ruth Boreham, is running a women’s history walking tour, through the New Town, on Saturday 15 March. It starts at 2pm, ends at 4pm and costs just over £20 per person.
The walk starts at St Andrew Square and concludes in Charlotte Square. Along the way, Ruth will talk about the history of Edinburgh and the local women who fought for justice, as well as those who worked as novelists and artists, during the period from the early 19th to the late 20th century.
Some of Ruth’s many credentials include a history degree and research work for the BBC TV show Who do you think you are?
She started running her women’s history walking tours in 2023 and now offers a programme of five, including one starting at Edinburgh Castle, which moves on to Holyrood Palace; one that traverses the Old Town and another, which takes place around the Canongate.
The walk in the New Town is the most popular tour, Ruth reports, attracting a number of local residents, who are keen to find out more about the area. She is currently considering introducing more tours, including, potentially, one that focuses on Stockbridge.
