Edinburgh-based Rutland Square Spirits has launched its first chai-spiced rum.

The new launch marks a strategic evolution for the brand, already known for its chai spiced-gin, as it builds a flavour-led spirits portfolio designed for global markets.

Crafted in small batches and bottled at 41 per cent ABV, the chai-spiced rum uses Caribbean molasses, is aged in ex-sherry casks to develop a ruby-rich depth and is then married with some of the world’s most prized tea leaves, in the form of white Oolong from Assam.

Soft-launched last month in duty-free stores across India and Dubai, where initial stock sold out, the rum is now being rolled out through wider international distribution partners and global online channels.

Founded in Edinburgh, Rutland Square Spirits positions itself at the intersection of Scottish distilling tradition and Indian chai heritage, describing the brand as “Scottish spirit, Indian soul”.

Commenting on the launch, founder Nishant Sharma said: “Scottish distilling, craftsmanship and Indian soul has always been at the heart of Rutland Square Spirits. Chai isn’t a trend for us – it’s part of who we are. Launching a rum allows us to explore that identity in a new category while staying true to our roots.”

The launch of the chai-spiced rum forms part of Rutland Square Spirits’ wider international growth strategy, as the business continues to expand its footprint across the UK and key global markets, including travel retail and major international hubs.
