Glenegedale House wins second Visit Scotland award
Glenegedale House on Islay has won the award of ‘best B&B and guesthouse experience’ in Visit Scotland’s 2024 Thistle awards, which celebrate the best of Scotland’s tourism and events industry.
It’s not the first time that Glenegedale has attracted an accolade from Visit Scotland: it won the ‘most hospitable B&B/guesthouse’ award in 2020.
Considering what makes Glenegedale special, co-owner Emma Clark, who runs the guesthouse with her husband Graeme, said: “We help guests create amazing memories.”
The décor of the guesthouse is described as a combination of luxury and antique furnishings, featuring Timorous Beastie wallpaper and Scottish tweed.
In winter, guests can enjoy Emma’s home-baked cakes such as dark-chocolate brownies and Lagavulin and walnut cake in front of the fire. Any time is a good time to come, though, as she said: “There is no best time to visit Islay, as each season has a magical feel to it.” Emma also reported that they regularly welcome famous guests, including a Hollywood actor.
The couple, who both have degrees in hospitality management, opened Glenegedale in 2013. Emma was born in the north of Islay, in Bunnahabhain and her parents ran a guesthouse and farm on the island. Graeme was previously manager of The Buttery restaurant in Glasgow.
