Dunfermline-based, Italian restaurant, Casa Mia is a finalist in two categories of this year’s Scottish Italian Awards – best family-run business and best family-friendly restaurant.

The awards ceremony takes place on Sunday 30 November, at the Doubletree by Hilton Glasgow Central hotel.

Casa Mia, which opened its doors eight years ago, has just appointed a new head chef, who has more than 20 years’ experience.  Graziano Fragole is a childhood friend of chef/proprietor Fabio Teti, from the Neapolitan town of Alife, near Naples.

The Casa Mia team also includes Fabio’s parents – his father Giuseppe, who is a skilled bread maker, and mother, Silvana, who is front of house.

One of the restaurant’s signature dishes it its ‘From Giuseppe to Joseph’ sourdough pizza, which references Fabio’s toddler son, as well as his father.

The pizza, which features a tomato-sauce base, is topped with fior de latte mozzarella and home-made, slow-cooked meatballs, and finished with ricotta cheese, black pepper, basil oil and extra-virgin olive oil:

“Meatballs have always been my favourite dish – such is my love of them, that I have a meatball tattoo,” said Fabio.

“My nonna, my dad’s mum, used to make the most incredible meatballs, and this is her family recipe.”

He added: “Dad’s hard work and skill have helped make Casa Mia the success it is today. We are thrilled to have my good friend, Graziano join us in the kitchen, and we are keeping our fingers crossed for the Scottish Italian Awards. To win something would be amazing, and the best possible welcome to Graziano as part of our team.”
